EDITORIAL RULE

Why archived news is labelled, not deleted

The problem with old promotional posts

The original site published a large number of promotion-led stories: a welcome bonus here, a launch offer there, a regional page for a specific market. Read today, they create a false impression. A figure that was accurate in 2016 is not a price in the present, and a page that still ranks in search can quietly mislead a reader who never checks the date.

What this desk does instead

Rather than delete a useful topic and break the route, each archived story is rewritten around the durable part of its subject. A story about a welcome bonus becomes a piece about how to read welcome-bonus terms. A story about a launch becomes a piece about verifying whether an offer still exists. The subject survives; the expired claim does not.

How to read any dated page

Find the date first. Then ask what would have to still be true for the page to be useful today. If the answer depends on a price, a promotion or an event that has passed, treat the page as history and verify the current position at the source.
